A big thank
you to all of the people who helped on volunteers' week.
Well, what can we say except a huge thank you to all those who came to volunteers week early in September. As always a vast amount of work was done and this was mixed with a great deal of laughter and love.
There are several students, this week and last, who are sleeping in beautifully re-decorated rooms thanks to you and they really appreciate it. The Ladies and Gents have been spruced up and the Hall floor almost looks like new. We now have a welcoming sign above the rostrum, all the rooms have curtains that open and close, a much- appreciated improvement I’m sure, and some have new carpet.
Andrew would also like to thank all those who came to his rescue when he had his accident, and for all the cards and absent healing he received. Thanks also to Harry for photographing the event for posterity!
It is not possible to pick anyone out individually as everyone put so much effort into making the week a huge success. So, heartfelt thanks once again from all at Hafan-y-Coed to.........
| Marie Cottam | Barbara & Lorraine Drysdale | Jack & Brenda Harrington | Barbara Bryan |
| Harry Rogers | Trish Redman | John Feltner | Tracey Kay-Spruce |
| Marian & Oliver Rowe | Louise Dye | Bernice Mollowdew | Kathy Allison |
| Lynn Law | David Fairhurst | Kenton & Sharon Lowe and family | Patricia Redman Mark the sign writer |
..... and all the Hafan regulars who were Theo, Levi, Jordan, Harley & Ellys Facer, Chrissy Henderson, Lynn & Andrew Ryan and not forgetting Gloria in the kitchen.
Without the support of all the volunteers, Hafan would not have been upgraded as well as it was.
Photos of the week will soon be on the web and some people might want to hide!
Thank you all again for your support.
This was a
fantastic week enjoyed by Students, Tutors and Staff alike.
The week opened on
Monday with workshops all day from BJ Bearclaw and in the evening a talk was
given by Wan-na-ne-chee, which was also open to the public and proved to be very
popular.
After this very demanding day there was more to come when on Tuesday
the Students were treated to another full day of workshops with Wan-na-ne-chee.
This set the pattern for daytime and every day there was hard work, lightened
with much love and laughter.
There were also student led activities, drumming,
making dream catchers, and the service on Thursday evening where the students
really showed what they were made of.
Well done to all!
We also had an
opportunity to listen to some of BJ’s wonderful poetry one evening and, as usual
for Hafan, we all made many new friends.
Finally, more good news....
BJ and Wan-na-ne-chee are both returning to Hafan to take workshops
next year.
In addition we are very excited to tell you that Wan-na-ne-che has
agreed to build us a Mother Earth Lodge during the week of September 4th
2004.
FIND THE OLD WAY, FIND YOURSELF
with PATRICK ROTHERHAM
An evaluation from student, DOT BRIGHT – (aged 77 and three quarters)
This course was led by Patrick Rotherham, a tutor who is once seen and never forgotten. This piece I have written is mostly what I personally have learned during this week.
It was a most enlightening course that we all attended.
The first thing we were told was to find, and keep, our roots. That is most important as it will keep you secure at all times.
We were taught about our guides, to get to know them and, as we may have more than one, to find out what they are with us for. One important guide is our Gatekeeper who we can call on whenever he or she is needed. We have a personal guide with is as well but it was explained that this, the Gatekeeper is not your personal guide, but one that is for you in an emergency if your own personal guide is not strong enough. I experienced this, although I didn’t know about it before, but I do now. We learned that we should never allow ourselves to be used by Spirit unless we permit it. The body is ours and we choose when it can be used and when not.
We also learned about the Four Elements – Earth, Air, Fire and Water and the meanings behind them, and about herbs and how they were used in the old ways. This still happens today in aromatherapy among other things. This is a very popular subject today and there are many books published about herbal medicine.
This course was most awakening for us, you can really find your Inner Self here.
Short Note! If you ever have the opportunity to meet Patrick and go to one of his Teachings, you will find that he is a very humble man, in his own way very spiritual, and very gentle (but strong). He is easy to understand and will explain everything that you ask. I found this and so did those with me.
